Huge congratulations to Year 7’s for making such a great start in their reading journey at Chorlton High School.
All Year 7’s take part in Accelerated Reader, a reading programme that motivates and inspires students to read using quizzes, targets and of course, plenty of chocolate for rewards! Seventy- seven students received certificates at the end of the Autumn term for achieving their targets in reading. Ms Gaskell, in the library, nearly got hand strain from writing them all and then had to deliver them to the classrooms with a bar of chocolate.
The top achieving form was 7JV, Ms Morrison’s English class who got 400% of their target and were rewarded with hot chocolate and waffles.
“Developing a reading habit is so vital in Year 7” said Ms Hockey from the library. “To encourage this, students fill in reading bookmarks. Ninety-five were received for Year 7 in the Autumn term, embedding reading into many student’s lives.”
Accessing the library is made easier by daily visits during Form time by library staff. To collect and deliver books for students.
The library is also available during reading lessons in Year 7 and after school each day. The online library catalogue makes it easy for students to look for and reserve books.
