An extra special surprise awaited students and families, invited from across Manchester to celebrate the regions brightest, newest library! Joseph Coelho, Waterstones Children’s Laureate 2022-2024, welcomed guests; sharing poems, laughter, and stories to launch this phenomenal new creative resource!

Located within a beautiful Edwardian building, it is a stunning testament to the unique partnership between Z-Arts and Manchester City Council, transforming this once unloved and unused place into an energetic hub for young imaginations to grow. Children have been pivotal to the development of this exciting space, re-imagined, and inspired to find fun in the words, picture and sounds around them.

Through this amazing collaboration, our city, our children, now have an incredible new library. Families can read, imagine, connect, and create together.

Saskia Metcalf, Head of Creative Development at Z-arts, said:
“We’re really thrilled to welcome families to our new Children’s Library.”
“The space is a vibrant, kid-friendly and kid-focused destination in the heart of Hulme that the Manchester community can visit and enjoy.”

Chorlton High students were immensely honoured to be invited, and to meet Joseph at this opening event.

The Library opens its doors for the first time to children and families on Saturday 15 October at 9:30 am; we can't wait to try it out!

Opening times: Monday – Friday: 9.30am – 6.30pm, Saturday: 9.30am – 4.30pm
