As a school, we support our community to prevent behavioural and emotional problems in young people, we know that by enhancing the knowledge, skills and confidence of parents/ carers we can work to achieve this goal.
Recently, we teamed up with CHS south, to run a 5wk course to help explore the transition, from childhood to adolescence, helping to make this process as smooth as possible for both the young person and parent.
The aims of the course are:
To enable parents with similar aged children to share experiences and give mutual support
To boost parent/teen relationship
To increase understanding of the development steps of adolescence and how these can be supported positively
To identify the effects of different parenting styles
To develop communication, negotiation and problem -solving skills
To discuss strategies for handling common problems in adolescence
