Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) is marked each year on 27th January – the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the liberation. Holocaust Memorial Day provides an opportunity for everyone to learn lessons from the Holocaust, Nazi persecution and subsequent genocides and apply them to the present day to create a safer, better future.

Each year’s HMD has a different theme, decided by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, as a focus for educational and commemorative events. The theme for 2020 is Stand Together. This year’s theme explores how genocidal regimes throughout history have deliberately fractured societies by marginalising certain groups, and how these tactics can be challenged by individuals standing together with their neighbours, and speaking out against oppression.
