Dear Parent,

Re: School Governing Body - Parent Governor Elections

I am pleased to inform you that we currently have two vacancies for Parent Governors to serve on the Governing Body of Chorlton High School.

The other members of the Governing Body represent the school staff, the local community and the student body. Governors should act in a strategic role, as a ‘critical friend’ to the school and be accountable for their responsibilities.  In addition, our local governing body plays a key part in our overall Trust governance structure, ensuring local views are discussed and communicated effectively to our Trust Board.

We have attched below, an information sheet on the role of Governor at Chorlton High School, including information on the time commitment involved.  If you are interested in standing for election, please ensure you read this information in full beforehand.

Some parents may be put off by the amount of work involved in being a Governor, or feel that they do not have the necessary expertise, knowledge or skills to carry out the role effectively.  We know from experience, however, that parents have much to offer our school and are critical in ensuring the future development of the school and ensuring it is aligned to the views of parents.  We would therefore encourage all parents to consider standing for election.

Governors are not expected to be instant experts.  Successful candidates will be provided with relevant information by the school once they are elected, and it is expected that they will take part in training events to help them learn about their role. We also subscribe to a Governor Support Service which offers advice and support to Governors on all aspects of their role.

If you are interested in standing for election, you must complete the attached form, found below, and return it to the school by Noon on Friday 26th January 2018.  Anyone standing for election must be proposed and seconded by two other parents of children who currently attend Chorlton High School.  All candidates must also write a brief statement outlining your skills and experiences to help parents to decide who to vote for.  This statement will be circulated to all parents as part of the voting process.

Remember, decisions taken by the Governing Body will affect your child’s future education.  To make sure you have a voice in that decision making, please make every effort to take part in these elections.

Yours faithfully,

Zoe Morris
