SCHOLAR

SCHOLAR
14th Mar 2025

‘A scholar is someone who doesn’t just do the bare minimum but someone who goes above and beyond. They show attention, they are organised and they have self belief. We are recognised as scholars by extending notes, taking time out of their own schedule to complete regular home study and focus on things they don’t really understand we also read both as part of our studies and for pleasure to make us into literacy legends. Being a scholar is important to me because it prepares me not only for my future studies where I hope to achieve well but also ensures that I am ready for the real world and can communicate so that I can be successful, creative and happy.’

- Written by Ubaydah Year 7. Ubaydah is a Super Scholar and continues to make fantastic progress with each step along their Year 7 Learning Journey.

At Chorlton High School, our students are proud to pursue academic excellence by developing their Scholar Habits. Each habit is broken down into steps, and students are explicitly taught how to embody them. Our ambition is for 100% of our students to learn as Scholars 100% of the time. We revisit each Scholar Habit to reinforce the consistency of our expectations, but also to acknowledge the tremendous success they bring when demonstrated.

Rewarding our Scholars through staff nominations every half term encourages our students to self-improve their habits and make significant improvements to their learning.

In Spring 1 2025, over 1,356 of our students were nominated by teachers as effective Scholars. This has increased from 1,284 at the end of the Autumn term 2024, showing that our 100% drive is having an impact. We are committed to reaching more students every half term with assembly and form time messaging, referencing Scholar Habits in every lesson, and consistently championing them by all staff.

The hard work of many students is recognised with multiple nominations. Teachers have recommended nearly 5,000 learners for awards, with 425 of our Super Scholars (almost a third of our school population!) receiving 5 or more awards across multiple subjects. Let's keep championing our pursuit of excellence for every single Chorlton High student.
