Chorlton High Connects to Global Peace Movement.
Chorlton High has received a heart-warming gift of special Orizuru (folded crane) Notebooks from Hiroshima, Japan.
Sadako Sasaki, a young survivor of the Hiroshima atomic bombing who later died of leukaemia from the radiation, has become an international symbol of peace and resilience. Her story of courage and hope is symbolised by her attempt to fold 1,000 origami cranes.
Inspired by Sadako's story, her classmate Tomiko Kawano initiated the Orizuru Notebook Project to recycle the millions of cranes that continue to be donated to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Each crane, filled with wishes for peace, is transformed into study notebooks distributed to children worldwide, providing an opportunity to learn about peace and cultivate a peaceful spirit.
We welcome these wonderful notebooks as a powerful symbol of hope, optimism, and resilience. This donation continues Chorlton High School's commitment to peace education and strengthens our work with Mayors for Peace, helping to raise international awareness about the need for nuclear disarmament and contribute to lasting world peace.
