Chrolton High was designated as a Specialist Arts College in 2002 and completely re-built, at a cost of over £17 million. The extra funding we received as a specialist Arts College, and having a new school built completely from scratch, enabled us to install state-of-the-art facilities in all areas, especially those for Performing Arts. These facilities are used extensively by students of Chorlton High, and by the local community.

Performing Arts facilities

Theatre

Our community theatre, The Blue Box Theatre, offers a fantastic environment to host productions and events. Seating up to 300, it has up-to-the-minute lighting, sound, and AV systems, as well as Box Office and wardrobe facilities.  As such, it is in high demand from the local community and professional touring groups alike. It is a multi-functional theatre, being well suited to drama, dance, and music productions, as well as conferences and movie presentations.

Drama facilities

As well as the Theatre (see above), there are also three separate drama spaces.
These spaces are used for drama lessons during the normal school day. After school, and at weekends, several community drama groups use these spaces along with extra-curricular school drama activities. If there is a large production taking place in the Theatre, these versatile drama spaces can also be used for rehearsals, performer holding areas, changing rooms and even  'green rooms' for celebrity guests!

Music facilities

With a Recording Studio, three large music ICT rooms, and three practice rooms, Chorlton High School provides a brilliant environment for our budding musicians. As with our other Performing Arts facilities, our music facilities are also available for community use outside of school hours.

Dance facilities

We have two designated Dance Studios at Chorlton High School. With floor-to-ceiling mirrors along two walls at opposite ends of the studio, in front of which are sturdy ballet rails, and with a continuous smooth wooden floor, the Dance Studio is ideal for school and community dance groups.

Sports facilities

Sports Hall

The large sports hall is well used during the school day and by local sporting groups in the evenings. The sports hall accommodates indoor cricket, netball, hockey, football, badminton, volleyball and basketball. The hall can also be partitioned into two halves to host different groups or activities.

All-Weather Pitch

We are fortunate to have a full size, flood lit, all weather pitch on school grounds which can be used for a variety of sports come rain or shine. This great facility is available to hire out of school hours.

Other outdoor sporting facilities include long jump, basketball and netball courts and a climbing wall.

Gymnasium

The Gymnasium has a specialist Granwood/Gransprung floor which makes it an ideal space for gymnastics and martial arts. The space is equipped with wall bars, beams, ropes, a trampoline spotting rig, basketball rings and a badminton court.

Changing Rooms

Large, segregated changing rooms with toilets and hot showers are available.

I.C.T. facilities

At Chorlton High School, we have a wealth of ICT facilities that underpin high quality teaching and learning and also ensure the efficient and smooth running of the school. The school has 5 large, dedicated ICT rooms.  Computing lessons take place in these 5 rooms, which are also available for students use in their own time after school hours under Teacher supervision. Students have ample storage space on their own network drive, as well as filtered safe high-speed broadband Internet access.

Library facilities

The Bodey Library is one of the most prominent features of our school. Occupying most of the first floor at the front of the school, the library has plenty of space including areas for quiet study and reading, as well as computer access.

The library holds more than 10,000 books and resources, including fiction and non-fiction books and a large Manga collection. It also has a range of newspapers and magazines for students to read and a dedicated Careers section with information on local colleges.

The Bodey library is a valuable resource for students from all year groups, and with ample natural light and great views, it's the ideal place to come and study.

Library Opening Times for Pupils

Before School – 08.00 to 08.30
Break – 10.45 to 11.05
After School (Homework Club) – 14.45 to 15.45

Prayer room facilities

The Ethnic Minority Achievement Team supervise lunch time prayers for pupils who are fully committed to practice their religion and keen not to miss out on their prayer time. A supervised space can be available during students’ lunchtime throughout the year.
